It takes about 10 minutes to cycle to Christian Albrecht University (CAU), and Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design is just a few minutes’ walk away. The UKSH University Medical Center is also nearby. It’s no wonder that Kiel is a real student city: around 35,000 students study and conduct research here at the university, university of applied sciences, and art academy, which has a huge impact on city life. Everywhere you go, you’ll encounter young people, trendy cafés, student pubs, and an open, diverse scene. From The Mingle, you’re right in the middle of it all – the university campus, libraries, and coworking spaces are all within easy reach.

Water & Beach:

Want to see the sea? Kiel Fjord and the harbour are just a short walk away. Watch the huge ferries and sailing ships or enjoy the sunset by the water. For beach days, just hop on the bus – for example, to Schilksee Beach in the north, where you can even admire the sailboats in the Olympic harbour from your beach chair.

Events & Nightlife:

Kiel really knows how to party – whether it’s at Kieler Woche, Europe’s largest folk festival, which attracts millions of visitors every year, or at concerts in the Wunderino Arena. In summer, there are numerous open-air concerts. In the evenings, small bars and clubs from Kleiner Kiel to Blücherplatz beckon. And best of all, as a resident of The Mingle, you can get home safely at night thanks to the central location (night buses and taxi stands are just around the corner).

The theatre, opera house, and the Kunsthalle zu Kiel art gallery – the city has a lot to offer culturally. Sports fans cheer on THW Kiel (handball Bundesliga) and Holstein Kiel (second division soccer) or go sailing themselves on the fjord. The surfing scene meets on the beaches around Kiel for kitesurfing, wing-foiling, and windsurfing. The nearby Schreventeich Park or along the Kiellinie waterfront are excellent places for jogging.

Everything on your doorstep

Right next to The Mingle is the Exerzierplatz, affectionately known as the “Exer” by Kiel residents. Today, it is used as a market and event venue. Twice a week, you will find the weekly market there, where you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, and regional delicacies – an experience that could quickly become your favourite day of the week. There are also several supermarkets, bakeries, and drugstores within walking distance – perfect for spontaneous shopping. The city centre itself (Holstenstraße, Sophienhof) with its shops and cinemas can be reached on foot in about 10-15 minutes or conveniently by bus.

Your new address has excellent transport links: bus routes at Exerzierplatz/Wilhelmsplatz takes you in all directions (university, main station, beach, etc.). For cyclists: Kiel has well-developed bike paths – it’s handy that your bike is always ready to go with us. And if you’re going further afield, the main station is only about 1.5 km away.
